In a recent interview with MTV.com exclusively Shia spoke first about working with Marilyn Manson.
They met at a Kills concert, where LaBeouf a longtime fan of Manson, casually approached the singer and began a conversation that sparked a genuine friendship.
"Marilyn Manson to me is such a memorable character. It is a lot to me, and in my childhood, I do not know of a scarier figure. He, in my teenage years, was the scariest thing in the world, so part of me has always been intrigued. "
LaBeouf told Manson that he would direct his next video and showed him his previous work, the clip of the song "Maniac" with Cage as proof of what he can do behind the camera.
"I showed 'Maniac' to Manson, and he let out a 'P *** that p ****'. Manson went mad and said, 'I want you to make my video.' "
About the clip, Shia said:
"The song has all these references to 'Macbeth' and all this Shakespeare and heavy theology, so we tried to make a 'Un Chien Andalou' Manson macabre 'Macbeth' - That is kind of what it has become."
Unsurprisingly, the images in the video are very graphic and very adult. Those who only conhcem Shia for his roles blockbusters will probably be shocked with this effort toward, but LaBeouf is not worried about those reactions.
"That, to me, is a really cool fun when I'm not making a movie. It gives me the opportunity to work with musicians I admire who I would otherwise never would get to work. I really had fun doing it. Allows me to be creative in another art form and work with heroes. "
